Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) in New Jersey

horse at Rutgers Equine CenterThe Conservation Innovation Grant program (CIG) is a voluntary program authorized under the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) administered by NRCS. The program is intended to stimulate the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies while leveraging Federal investment in environmental enhancement and protection in conjunction with agricultural production. Under CIG, Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) funds are used to award competitive grants to non-Federal governmental or non-governmental organizations, Tribes, or individuals. The grants require a 50-50 match between the agency and the applicant.

CIG is offered as both a nation-wide and a state program.

  • National CIG Component - The National CIG proposals for 2009 were due in the Washington, DC office on March 20, 2009.

New Jersey announces funding opportunities for the state component of CIG on Grants.gov once a year, normally in February or March after the national CIG component is announced. The CIG State Component offers eligible entities the opportunity to apply for grants up to $75,000 for eligible projects within the state. Interested applicants may review the prior year funded projects and proposal requirements to get an idea of the types of projects funded. The 2009 New Jersey CIG was announced on February 26, 2009. Proposals were due on May 15, 2009.  Awards were made in September 2009.
