Water Quality Initiative in Selected Watershed

The National Water Quality Initiative in New Jersey was featured at Bonham Farms in Cumberland County on May 11. The new initiative will focus on improving impaired waterways in the Upper Cohansey River, Upper Salem River, and Upper Alloway Creek watersheds. NRCS will review applications received by June 15, 2012, for funding consideration and begin developing contracts with selected applicants this summer.

May is Wetlands Month

American Wetlands Month was initiated in 1991 to celebrate the importance of this vital resource. Wetlands functions contribute to the Nation's ecological, economic, and social health. NRCS works with private landowners to help them restore wetlands through several conservation programs.

Working Lands for Wildlife in New Jersey

2012 funding for the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) is available through the Working Lands for Wildlife Partnership. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar announced the new $33 million partnership to use innovative approaches with farmers, ranchers and forest landowners to restore and protect the habitats for seven specific wildlife species while also helping other vulnerable and game species.
