Agricultural Management Assistance (AMA) in New Jersey

The Agricultural Management Assistance (AMA) Program is a voluntary program authorized by the 2002 farm bill and is offered in New Jersey on a limited basis when funds are made available by Congress. AMA provides an opportunity for small-scale and beginning farmers who qualify for farmland assessment and who might not normally participate in a government program to apply for financial and technical assistance to implement basic conservation measures that can reduce risk in their new or diversified operations.

AMA targets three specific concerns: water management, tree planting, and risk management through production diversification and resource conservation practices. Through AMA , Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) professionals assist producers in the development of a conservation plan and the design of conservation practices. They also provide guidance to help implement the plan.
