Lambertville – Swan Creek Watershed Preliminary Flood Damage and Mitigation Report

South Union Street flooded June 2006The City of Lambertville entered into an agreement with the United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) in January of 2006. The purpose of the agreement was to study the feasibility of an engineering solution to the Delaware River back-flooding into Swan Creek that impacts neighboring homeowners and businesses along Swan Creek. The City of Lambertville provided funding to NRCS to conduct this study.

Primary accomplishments of the study included a structure-by-structure engineering survey of approximately 200 structures in the flood damage area along Swan Creek and a preliminary evaluation of available flood mitigation alternatives. A recommendation was made that further study and a detailed analysis of benefits and costs, along with an environmental assessment of each alternative and its acceptability to the public, be completed. This report is intended to provide a framework for that analysis and assessment.
