NRCS Conservation Innovation Grants in 2008The Request for Proposals for the State CIG for Fiscal Year 2008 was announced in February. Applications for this opportunity must be submitted by 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2008, to the NRCS New Jersey State Office in Somerset. The 2002 Farm Bill established the Conservation Innovation Grants as part of the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). NRCS in New Jersey will offer a new statewide competition for 2008. Selected applicants to the New Jersey program may receive grants up to 50 percent of the total project cost with a maximum award of $75,000 for a single project. The first NJ grants were awarded in 2005. The grant program is offered to a diverse set of potential applicants, including state and local agencies, nonprofit organizations, for-profit companies, and individuals to help field test, implement, and transfer innovative environmental solutions to natural resource problems. Projects may be from one to three years in length. Grants will fund projects targeting innovative on-the-ground conservation, including pilot projects and field demonstrations that focus on water resources, soil resources, atmospheric resources, grazing land and forest health. Funds are also available to develop, implement, and or evaluate processes, technology tools, institutional arrangements, or systems that are ‘market-based’ in nature and address one of the above priority resource concerns. 2008 Application Materials
